Thread starter Cocky1 Start date Oct 13, Cocky1 Registered. I read as many post as I could find and it sounds like most of you had nor problems.
Here are the issues I ran into: 1 with my stock bars my right brake res would rub the inner cover - with the heli it hits and also hit the windscreen. How might I loosen that up - do they make longer ones? Most of you had no issues so I am trying to figure out why I seem to have trouble with everything I touch.
I have only had the bike a couple weeks but already making changes. Acehole The crowbar! Donating Member. Gen 1 or 2? Did you route the fast idle on the back side of the steering head.
Cable should now route beteen the 2 gas tank bolts. Ah, That should solve that problem. Any thought on the other 2 concerns? Re: 1 well if your stock bars were hitting the inner and now Heli's are hitting it and windscreen I would say it's something in your after market triple tree.
Because my Gen1 '05 didnt have that issue stock and doesnt have that issue with my Heli bars either. Re: 2 I'm going out to see where the lock groove actually is on mine. Thanks for the help Ace!
Ok on my stock triple tree the locking screw is on the bottom, but the bars are rotated slightly rearward. Rotating them forward would place the groove towards the rider and may let the brake Res hit the windscreen.
It really sounds like you have some rise in those after market triple tree. Hope any of this helps. I did not have any issues with the Heli bar mod on my Bars are only 1. Should have installed them years earlier. UPC: You save. Rating Required Select Rating 1 star worst 2 stars 3 stars average 4 stars 5 stars best.

Which incidentally, is the length of an average trackday session. We too had experienced this with the stock pieces but that numbness did not occur when riding with the Heli-Bars.
The noticed improvement in street comfort alone would have been enough to justify switching to these bars but we still had a track test to perform. Autobahn Country Club , in Joliet, Illinois, was where we conducted the track portion of this review. The Full Course at this facility has 23 turns so there was plenty of opportunity to experience the bars in a variety of different cornering situations. On the track we noticed that it felt much more natural to drape our outside arm over the gas tank.
It was also easier to experiment with different entry points, as the added leverage of the Heli-Bars provided extra confidence when flicking the bike into turns. Switchback transitions were also made with less effort.
The pavement was wet for a few of these sessions, giving us the opportunity to see how the bars performed in catching a slide. Even at this extreme, the Heli-Bars were very predictable and showed no tendency to make us overcorrect.
In fact, there was nowhere on the track that we found ourselves wishing we had the original-equipment bars. For both road and track use, these Heli-Bars proved their worth. In every environment, the big BMW was a more comfortable and better behaved motorcycle. Here at TrackdayMag. In this case, much to our surprise, it was upping our comfort level that increased performance! A common question we receive on the Yamaha FJR is why did you design a replacement triple clamp.
Here is the detailed information from our engineer: 1st: The stock triple clamp on the has a horizontal mount for the handlebars. So any riser that would be added onto the triple clamp would only make the handlebars taller, not closer to the rider.
Also the handlebar mounting hardware complicates any riser design. BMw , Ducati , helibars , honda , Risers , Suzuki , triumph , yamaha. These are all questions I hear daily. Case in point. I received an email this week telling me that our advertising was wrong. We take measurements from the stock location to the new HeliBars location.
